Why Darlene is Racing with Purpose:
Recently, my friend asked me to join her on a trip to Burundi in Central Africa. She and her team from Tirzah International were traveling in support of oppressed women who had lived through genocide, violence, abuse and poverty. I was unable to join the team due to commitments here at home, but I thought to myself that if there was another way I could support this great mission, I would.
When another friend encouraged me to enter a half marathon, I thought this would be a great way to create awareness and raise funds for the women in Burundi. Although I love to exercise, I’ve never officially entered a race before. I decided to start out by doing a 10K as this was a more realistic goal for me to achieve.
My goal is to raise $1,000 to help support the women of Burundi. Any contributions toward this goal will make a difference in the lives of women who are courageous and who don't give up in the face of great obstacles. Please help! It's in 4 short days, but I'm confident I can reach this goal with your help!
